Lessons from a Cross Country Meet Drone Footage

Cross Country is a sport that probably gets the least amount of attention of any fall sport. I guess that is part of what I like about it. Athletes who love cross country will put in 100's of miles of running sometimes with others but a lot of the time by themselves. It's all to discover what their best effort looks like in the fall. There are literally no short cuts in cross country. And there are very few people to cheer them on.

And I see that as a life lesson. Most of what we do in life, we will get little or no attention for. There will be no cheering crowds and we cannot take short cuts. We just have to do our best and hope for the best.

I am wondering if drones might change the issue of attention for cross country a bit. On Saturday in Hinsdale, Hinsdale Central and South High Schools hosted the first major invitational of the season. They have posted a 15 minute film of the race taken from a drone. I happen to also think that watching running is beautiful -- combine that with the weather on Saturday and you get some really nice footage.

Our Cross Country Team competes next at Niles West High School on Tuesday.
