The Week That Was in North Shore Athletics -- February 29- March 6

The Track Team Heading Out Friday
Last week was the first week of Upper School Spring sports, and it almost seemed like spring -- thank you El Nino!

We started practices with Upper School Boys Tennis, Baseball, Girls Soccer and Spring Track & Field. Of course at the same time as a school, we are heading into musical season. So many kids are juggling busy rehearsal schedules with opening practices.

But we were not quite done with the winter as three Varsity Boy Basketball players -- Drew Miles, Matt Morette, and Andrew Potter -- advanced to the Sectional Final of the IHSA 3 point shooting contest. Matt became the first North Shore boy to advance to the State final in the shooting contest, hitting 9 three point shots last Friday. Matt will compete in Peoria this Thursday March 10th with the hope of advancing out of 32 others in the preliminary round to the finals on Friday March 11th.
1st Place & School Record

The first spring track meet happened last Friday night at the University of Chicago Henry Crown Fieldhouse. The team was a bit depleted due to illness especially on the girls side, but of the 18 athletes who participated we had 18 seasonal bests and 17 personal bests. Senior AJ Formolo also set a new school record in the 60m High Hurdles of 9.10 which right now ranks as the #6 time in Class A in the state. We also had strong boy relay marks. The boys 4x400m team of Conlon, Doyle, Formolo, McHugh became only the 2nd 4x4 relay team ever to break 3:50 indoors running 3:49.81.
Our Basketball All-Conference Team

Sunday we honored the Girls and Boys Basketball teams with our annual Basketball Celebration. These moments always give me a chance to take inventory on what we have accomplished and this was a great winter. We were also able to acknowledge five members of the basketball team for being voted to the ISL All Conference. They are:

Julia Doyle '18 -- Honorable Mention
Lauren Kaplinsky '17 -- 2nd Team
Matt Morette '16 -- 1st Team
Drew Miles '16 -- Honorable Mention
Ben Potter '16 -- 2nd Team

This week will be a complicated one for our athletes with the Musical performance on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. But we also have the three point contest and for many the last indoor track meet of the winter back at the University of Chicago on Friday. It should be a good week as we make steady progress towards Middle School Spring sports starting Monday March 14th and then Spring Break on March 19th.
