It was a nice way to start back to school with no games at home on the first Monday and Tuesday back from break. That gave many a chance to get back into school routine. On Tuesday the Girls Varsity Basketball team, though, went on the road to win at Woodlands Academy to start 2016 on a nice note. It also moved our girls Varsity to 6-5 for the season.
When Wednesday arrived we were back at it at with a number of teams on the road and home games too. The Freshman/ Sophomore Boys team travelled to Latin. The Girls Middle School teams played Anshe Emet at home and the Boys Middle School teams went on the road to Anshe Emet. The boys middle school were hampered a bit by a bus that showed up 30 minutes late but played hard at Anshe Emet despite losing both games. The Freshman Sophomores team were also a little rusty at Latin losing. But the Girls Purple team took Anshe Emet to overtime and won. This was the first Middle School Girls basketball game anyone could remember that went to overtime. So despite a tough day, it was nice to gain the wins.
Thursday we hosted the JV girls team from Lake Forest Academy and our JV team looked great winning going away.
On Friday we hosted our first boys conference game of the season. The Maroons of U-High travelled to Winnetka after earning a couple of impressive conference wins. Our Raiders had a conference win over Morgan Park but also two losses to Latin and Parker. The JV game opened with a solid win for the Raiders then the Varsity game started. It was a back and forth affair but the Raiders pulled out an close victory the difference being a number of 3 point baskets from way way beyond the 3 point line by senior Matt Morette. That puts our Varsity boys to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Saturday we sent our Freshman Sophomore boys on the road to I believe the first tournament they have participated in hosted by Alden Hebron. During the long day, they went 1-2 defeating the host Alden Hebron to end the day.
Overall we were 6-6 for the week and a lot of growth for our teams.
