If you've being checking this blog out for a while, you know I love music. So for the 10th year in a row, I am sharing my list of what I call the best songs of the year. Below is a Youtube playlist so you can listen to all of them. I also burn about 50 CD's and if you would like one all you have to do is drop by the Mac Gym office or ask me to drop one off for you.
Ten years ago -- in desperation -- this list started because I could not figure out what to get my wife Kathy for Christmas. I thought Kathy being a teacher who is either meeting with students, grading papers, preparing classes or reading -- not to mention taking care of me and our sons -- she probably did not have time to listen to all the great music of that past year. So for Christmas 2006, I created a playlist for her. Don't worry. I have since moved on to trying other ideas for a Christmas gift for Kathy. But I found a couple of people liked my CD. So now I give away a CD of music every year and write a few notes about some of the songs.
I typically keep the list to just songs from the current year. But I sometimes make an exception for a song that I discovered in the last year like this years first song 'Welcome Home'. There's just too much to listen to in one year. So the first song is from a few years ago.
I also try to keep most of the big names in music out of this mix-- so no "Hotline Bling" or "Hello". Who needs another person telling you how awesome Adele is? (that's not to say she isn't awesome, but you don't need me to tell you that!) I made one exception this year for one Justin Bieber song because I know a lot of "Beliebers", and they have convinced me to "never say never" and give Justin a closer listen.
