But Spring Break for our Athletic Department is anything but peaceful.
There is always spring cleaning going on. By the end of the winter, keeping closets cleaned up seems almost impossible. Every time you clean a closet or organize an area some group comes a long and makes a mess. So spring break for me is often about cleaning up closets and putting things away.
But we also have traditional projects like making sure lines are on our fields and tennis courts are prepared with wind screens as well as last minute orders are filled for spring team equipment.
One of the big projects this spring was to put up a new baseball field fence. Coach Jim Deuble and our ground crew spent several days getting the new fence up and prepared for the season. I think it looks great.
We also now have a fair amount of competing going on.
Baseball Coaches Paul Kosinski and Justin Drexler took 15 baseball players to South Carolina and the team played great! The team went 2-2. Senior Andrew Case pitched a 68 pitch complete game win and Connor Watrous pitched a 5 inning shut out in our second win. The Varsity Baseball team will be in action today for our home opener vs. Westmont Hight School.
Members of our track team were at four different meets this spring break. Eight boys spent the first weekend of spring break at the Charleston Boys Invitational at Eastern Illinois University and Tonya Piergies competed in the Clinton Last Chance Meet. In the Middle Weekend Piergies and Tommy McHugh competed at the Top Times Meet. And during the second week, Tonya represented the Raiders at The Cholla Challenge in Santa Fe New Mexico.
Coach Jones had an afternoon soccer camp on campus during week 2 of spring break. And we had assorted athletes and alums stop by for workouts throughout our break.
So there was very little sitting around during this break for North Shore Athletics. But the change of pace does allow us to focus on filling up our buckets for the last 8 weeks of school. The spring season in many ways is the most intense of the year, so I appreciated this diagram I saw on the internet of what needs to happen to maximize these last weeks of the 2014-15 school year.
Welcome Back Everyone! Lets Get AFTER IT! Go Raiders!
