I saw this quote from Jon Gordon yesterday as I rode out to our cross country sectional. Winning is one of those words that presents all sort of issues for me. There is a right way to win and a wrong way to win. I have been on teams who deserved to win and lost and on teams that deserved to lose and won. Justice is not always served in the outcome of a game, meet or match.
However, we pursue winning in athletics. This is the time of the Fall where winning probably matters most as your season either ends or continues with a win. So I particularly like Gordon's words about winning. I like the ending especially because of the reference to life and not giving up til the game is over. We have had a great Fall season of sports at North Shore Country Day School. After yesterdays cross country meet, we are just down to the volleyball team still playing. But the game is far from over for any of us.
By the way, Jon Gordon wrote a great book called The Energy Bus that I highly recommend for teams and coaches.
