"In mind's special processes, a ten-mile run takes far longer than the 60 minutes reported by a grandfather clock. Such time, in fact, hardly exists at all in the real world; it is all out on the trail somewhere, and you only go back to it when you are out there."
Once A Runner
Today's workout is a 45 minute long run at a VERY FRESH effort and it is the shortest Sunday long run from now on. Next week go longer as we progress to 60 minutes over the course of the summer.
As you have probably noticed many of the daily quotes I use are from the novel Once A Runner. The picture above is a copy of the first edition. John Parker the author initially wrote it, self published it and sold it out of his car at track and cross country meets.
Originally published in 1978, I got my copy in 1981 or 1982 from a teammate. For a long time you could not get a copy because the first edition sold out. Then a reissue was published in 2008 and you can get it on Amazon, as an audible book or Kindle or Apple books. It is often considered the greatest running novel ever written.
It is definitely a great summer read for anyone interested in the sport and especially appropriate this summer with the summer Olympics approaching.
Have a great run today!
