2012 Olympics 5000 Meter Run Heat |
You had to be calm in the heavy traffic, he knew, hold back your impatience and control the panic; wait for opportunities. The first lap would be like that the whole way: fast, scary, with no pain or serious effort. The rampaging adrenaline and pent-up energy did that. The first lap was a process of burning it off; no one ever won a mile race on the first lap.
Once a Runner
Todays workout is 35 minutes Fresh followed by 6x100m Strides.
This 35 minute run is our most common time for a run. If you feel that it is becoming too easy for you, feel free to lengthen the run to 40 minutes. The strides at the end though are important. Do not cut them. I know there is the temptation to do that. But it is key on these days to end doing something faster.
The faster running I believe does a lot more than just get you to move fast. It cleans up running form and likely then makes you a more efficient runner.
But as the quote says "be calm". Doing a stride is like running fast but slightly holding back. They should not be exhausting. The strides so should leave you feeling fast and that's the way you should feel when we do the next run on Friday.
As you can see in the picture above, all of these runners have great athletic form.
