GAIN IX and North Shore Country Day School

I left this morning for GAIN IX at Rice University. Attendance at this conference has become like hitting my yearly re-set button. There is nothing I can quite compare it to. Its like gathering with 50 to 60 of the most interesting people I know.

GAIN is an acronym for the Gambetta Athletic Improvement Network. This conference started in 2007 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. It was by invitation only, and I was lucky to be invited as Vern Gambetta who started the conference had been a Master in Residence here in PE and Athletics a few years before. Since 2011 the conference home is at Rice University in Houston.

A number of our coaches have attended with me including Jen McQuet, Mark Medhurst, Cy Oelerich and this year Mike Moreau.

The program has four goals
1) Offer a career defining educational experience for all involved
2) Define the field of Athletic Development
3) Foster a We Not Me environment that leads to an open exchange of ideas and learning
4) Training = Testing, Testing=Training, Training=Rehab, Rehab=Training

I am going to try and regularly update this blog over the next 3 days to give you a taste of why this is a great conference. Look for updates starting around 4 pm today and continuing through Friday morning.
