Sunday Inspiration -- 10 Things That Require Zero Talent

One of the best things about working with high school athletes is seeing sometimes dramatic positive transformations in them from freshman year to senior year. Now, most high school athletes' performances improve because they mature. High school athletes usually get better no matter if I do a good job of coaching or bad job of coaching. But I am always fascinated by the athletes who make the biggest transformation. Who were uncoordinated or slow or not confident freshmen and then become totally amazing seniors -- that has something to do with maturity but a lot to do with other qualities.

My coaching friend from GAIN -- Phil Bazzini -- recently shared with me a meme that is entitled Things That Require Zero Talent. As I looked at this list, I realized that of the athletes I see make the greatest positive changes over four years, most of them possess most of these qualities.

1.   Being on Time
2.   Strong Work Ethic
3.   Emphasize Best Effort
4.   Body Language
5.   Energy
6.   Attitude
7.   Passion
8.   Being Coachable
9.   Doing Extra

10.      Being Prepared
