The Oregon Track Club Elite (OTC ELITE) tweeted the following picture with the comment "Sometimes Trying to be great is Lonely"
I happen to like that sentiment and I would say that loneliness may be one of the biggest hurdles for current youth athletes to get over if they want to reach their potential. In my youth, standing outside and shooting a basketball or throwing a ball against the wall or steps by yourself was quite common. If you were lucky, a neighbor might come by and join you. But more often you were alone lost in thought, repetitively doing the activity.
It's not that I never see kids working by themselves today, but I see it a lot less than my youth. So when I see it, I notice and I see it as a sign of potential for the future.
