One of the best lessons I have learned as a teacher and coach is to begin with the end in mind. Several things reminded me of that this week. First, right now we are doing a lot of scheduling for the spring. So in some ways, this week has been all about thinking about the end of the school year. Second, we as a school are in the midst of preparing a self evaluation of our last seven years, and I had to accumulate data on the outcomes of our athletic program during that period. Lastly, I got to spend an hour with alum Peter Callahan' 09 and discuss the plans for his spring and summer.
Peter told me about his friend Kyle Merber's 15 minute documentary of the past year. I have posted it below because with all this talk about outcomes, I thought it may better capture what I would think we would want for each of our students than the number of championships or an improved win loss percentage.
I am proud of our athletic accomplishments and I am excited about what will follow the rest of this year. But really what I hope most for our students, is they have many years like the one documented below.
Years where they can pursue a passion. Surround themselves with family and friends who support their journey and fill their years with opportunities to see and appreciate all this world has to offer.
Lets begin with that end in mind. Enjoy the film!
