Basketball Season Crescendo
Musicians know that a crescendo is a gradual increase in sound. A great musical crescendo can be incredibly exciting. Although there is a lot of emphasis on wins and losses in sports, I believe a better goal for a team is to think about a gradual crescendo during their season. Gradually better and better performance.
There is no season where I see this image being more relevant than basketball season. I think this is because of the length of the season and the intensity of the end of the season with both conference championships being decided and state tournaments.
At this time of the year, basketball teams are either getting better or getting worse. A lot can be salvaged in the last couple of weeks with strong play. But due to the length of the season, lots of teams become satisfied with their performance and do not play their best.
Our girls varsity basketball team seems to be peaking at the right time having won their regional last week and heading to a sectional semi-final game tonight in Elgin against Morgan Park Academy. A win tonight will be the biggest achievement ever for a North Shore girls basketball team. Follow me on Twitter at @NorthShoreTrack for updates.
Our boys varsity basketball team finishes their regular season conference play at Francis Parker tonight with a 6 pm game. A win will solidify third place in a very tight conference race and propel them positively into the state tournament.
JV boys basketball finishes this week with games on Thursday night at home and the ISL tournament on Saturday.
The Middle School girls teams finished games yesterday and Middle School boys finish with games this afternoon.
Let's enjoy the crescendo to this remarkable basketball season!
