Mike Leonard

Former school parent, Mike Leonard (father of Brendan '02) is retiring from his full time gig with The Today Show after 32 years. My understanding is his last story is airing this morning (Thursday). Since I am a Facebook friend of his, I saw the retirement note he posted on December 4th. He announced his retirement by posting the video embedded below entitled "How to Raise an Astronaut" and noted the following:

"After 32 years I am retiring from full-time duty as a Today show correspondent. My last story is scheduled to air on Thursday December 13th. In going through my files I came upon a piece that aired in December of 1999. This "retelling" is dedicated to all the young, cash-strapped parents who want their children to find happiness and fulfillment in life but worry about not being able to afford the best coaches, tutors, schools, etc. Do not fret. Just listen to Pattie and Richie Kelly."
(son Mark is married to former Arizona congresswoman Gabby Giffords)
It's a great piece which hits themes I have tried to write about at times on this blog. Struggle is good. Be willing to take risks. Do not be afraid of failure. Believe in yourself. Dream. Work hard and persevere.

Thanks Mike for your years of great stories and life lessons with The Today Show. Your work has inspired me and so many others.  Postscript: after the video is this mornings Today Show Story.
