Butler Basketball and Productivity

These two topics have no particular relationship in my mind. They were just two short posts, I am combining today.

Maybe you saw the Butler vs. Indiana University game on Saturday. I didn't because I was working our home basketball game. However, if you haven't heard, the highlight of the weekend college basketball games was Alex Barlow of Butler University hitting the game winning shot in overtime to defeat the #1 team in the country, Indiana University. You can take a look at the shot below and the last minute of the game. But here are some interesting facts about Barlow.

He is a 5'11" walk-on player who came to Butler mainly because he wants to be a college basketball coach, and he felt that learning from Butler coach, Brad Stevens, would be the best way to prepare him. He was a better high school baseball player than basketball player. Up until Saturday, Barlow had only made 6 previous baskets in his Butler career. Probably the only reason he was in the game at that time was that better players had fouled out of the game.

Great coaches find a way to get the right people in the right places at the right time.

Jim Thompson, the founder of the Positive Coaching Alliance, wrote the following piece on the Butler head coach that is worth a read: Jim Thompson on Butler's Brad Stevens

Here is the final seconds of the game.

Here is also an interesting video on what scientists know about Productivity passed on to me by former Upper School Principal Paul Perkinson. I always find it difficult to be as productive as I like the week before long breaks, so I am using the video as inspiration. Have a great Tuesday and thanks for reading.
