We had seven basketball games last week over all levels and our record for the week was 4-3. It was a kind of odd week, though, as many schools were getting out for break. So we did not have our typical Friday afternoon and evening games for High School. We did have a memorable trip down to Morgan Park Academy on Friday afternoon for the Purple and White boys teams which resulted in a split decision -- White lost and Purple won. We will have a rematch against the Morgan Park Academy Middle School teams at Basketball Bash on January 21st. Earlier in the week, the Purple team defeated an undefeated Christian Liberty Academy 41-31 bringing the Purple boys to a 4-2 record heading into our break.
Probably our most memorable game of the week, though, was our Varsity Boys game vs. Yeshiva. Our Boys got off to a strong start and were up 36-22 at the half. I love playing Yeshiva in boys basketball because I have never seen them give up. Regardless of who is coaching them and how far down they get, Yeshiva keeps the intensity of their play up. I was once witness to a triple overtime game against Yeshiva. And sure enough, they did not give up on Wednesday rallying from 14 down at the half to having the last shot for the win, which -- lucky for us -- they missed. We won 49-47. I feel these types of games are great learning experiences for our team.
The Varsity Girls team unfortunately only had one game last week It was a win over Francis Parker on the road 34-24. That brings the girls record to 5-3. Our Wednesday December 14th Girls Varsity game vs. Roycemore was cancelled due their coach's illness. Chicagoland Jewish High School also canceled the Monday December 19th game due to injuries and short numbers on their girls team. Both games will be made up in January.
The Purple Middle School Girls team played two very tough opponents last week. On Monday, they lost to Christian Liberty Academy 18-6 and on Wednesday they lost 18-11 at Lake Forest Country Day. They were scheduled for a third game on Friday afternoon at Elgin Academy, but we had to cancel due to a shortage of players. The Purple girls head into the break with a record of 2 wins and 3 losses.
We have one more day of Basketball games before break and it will be Monday. The JV and Varsity Boys will split up on Monday. The Varsity will head to Chicagoland Jewish High School for a 5:30 pm game and The JV will stay behind for a 6:30 pm game vs. the freshmen team from St. Martin De Porres.
That will wrap up basketball games for the first part of the season. We will have open gyms over break on December 22, 23, 24 27, 28, and 29 from 10 am until noon. All are welcome.
