Happy Break -- Chad Burns and All.I.Can

Today winter break begins. I will be blogging over break, but thought I would give you a couple of videos that will help start things off right. The first is a video of Chad Burns who is the equipment manager at Miami of Ohio. He dances every day during football practice warm-ups. Students in the Miami video department began filming him without his knowledge and this video is the result. They posted it on YouTube on December 8th and it already has had 133,000 views.

There are a couple reasons why I post this video today. First, today -- as is our school tradition -- we will dance as a school. Every grade will dance and all our faculty will dance. The more I study athletic movement, the more I discover how important dance is. Second, while you watch the video of Chad dancing, look at what the football players are doing for warm-up. The question that my friend Mark Day, who pointed this video out to me, asked was who is doing the better warm-up for activity -- Chad or the football players sitting and stretching? Enjoy Chad and I hope you enjoy the dances today.

Athleticism comes in all forms. This second video also has a North Shore connection as the skier is a NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) instructor with Jacob Perkinson (former North Shore student and son of former Upper School Head Paul Perkinson.) I know a lot of our athletes may not have a chance to work on their primary sport over break. But that does not mean they are not working on athleticism. Enjoy the break and keep moving!
